Election Report – November 5, 2024 elections

At least 133 Greens in 23 states ran in November 5 elections: AZ (11), CA  (18), CT (9), DC (6), FL (1), HI (3), IL (2), KS (1), MD (3), ME (3), MI (16), MN (2), MO (13), MT (1), NC (4), NJ (13), NY (1), OR (14), PA (2), SC (1), TX (3), VA (1), WI (1) and WV (3).

Among these, 82 races were for partisan state and federal office, and 51 were for local county, city, school and special offices.

Of the 51 races for local office in November, at least 19 Greens were elected in AZ, CA, DC, FL, ME and SC, including 12/13 incumbents.  Greens lead in two more races in CA that are still too close to call  and a smattering of additional local candidates are still being reported. Of the 19 elected, two were for city council, two for school board, eights for water board and two for parks board. Of the 50 overall, the breakdown includes: city council (16), mayor (2), school board (6), water board (10), parks board (2) and county board (4).

Earlier in 2024, running for similar offices, Greens were elected in 30 out of 41 races (73.2%) For the entire 2024, Greens have been elected in at least 49 out of 92 races (53.3%)  for county, city, school, tribal and special district office. Overall at least 185 Greens in 27 states ran in 2024, with a breakdown of 92 for local office and 93 for state and federal office, dispelling the myth yet again that Greens only run for top-of-the-ticket races.

As of November 5 elections, at least 158 Greens in 21 states hold elected office. All-time, Greens have been elected at least 1575 times to public office. (last updated November 18, 2024)
